No matter your level of expertise on the slopes, there is always room for improvement. There’s a reason the pros get out on the mountain as often as possible and ski with others that can help advise and develop their skills further. Women’s Ski & Wellness week takes basic to the most advanced terrain and gives women the confidence and technical skills to conquer every level of slope. Skiing in a group of women that are eager and open to advancement allows for a level of camaraderie which cannot be found off the mountain.
As the longest running Women's Ski Week program in the country, the 35th year is shaping up to be Telluride's best yet. This past weekend was the first of the 2016 Women’s Ski & Wellness Week programs and, with 28 women in tow, proved a huge success.
"Women's week is a great camp for females looking to improve their skills in a supportive environment," said participant Rachael Oakes-Ash. "It was inspiring to witness women conquer runs and terrain they never thought they would be able to and to do it in a more aggressive way than they had before. They may have known they had the skills but after this program, they believed in those skills. There's a big difference"
In addition to having tons of attention on the mountain from some of the world’s most qualified female instructors, the women were able to attend a biomechanics talk with Dr. Kim Hewson, focusing on how the female body functions mechanically when skiing. This session taught attendees how to optimize posture, position, and technique in order to prolong endurance throughout the day. Local ski shop, Bootdoctors, hosted a gear talk to teach women about skis, boots, bindings, tunes, and the science behind women’s specific gear.
This session’s women had full access to the Spa at the Peaks, the largest spa in Colorado, for morning yoga and ski-centric stretching and apres ski hot-tubbing. They also enjoyed world class spa treatments, swimming pools, and other spa amenities throughout their clinic. The Executive Spa Director at the Spa at the Peaks, Julia Gullotti, PhD, e-RYT, LMT, focused wellness programming to help the women maintain physical stability while also providing insight into mental wellness, nutrition, and high altitude fitness.
With two sessions remaining this year, we hope you’ll join us for either our 5-day session running from February 7th through the 11th or our final session running from February 26th through the 28th.
