The 2017 Joy Index rated Telluride as the seventh most joyous tourist destination. The ranking was created by Bank of America, Conde Nast Traveler and various 'happiness experts' such as Gretchen Rubin, author of the best-selling book "The Happiness Project."
The report looked at general happiness amongst locals living in each destination along with various factors that would make visitors happy such as likeliness of creating great memories, unforgettable meals and sense of adventure. And with all these beautiful places being featured, Telluride is the only mountain town in the list.
Colorado and outdoor adventure go hand-in-hand. With world-class skiing, rock-climbing, cycling, fly-fishing and more, it's easy to be physically active in all seasons—a big part of the reason Colorado consistently ranks in the top ten U.S. states for well-being. To truly take in Colorado's natural beauty, forgo Denver's city buzz and Aspen's runway show in favor of remote and picturesque Telluride.
