The second annual Telluride Integrative Wellness Summit attracted attendees from all over the world for three full days of programming focused on science-based health and wellness. Telluride is a mecca for brilliant minds and innovation, this year’s summit was no exception.
The weekend kicked off with an incredible performance by Grammy Award winner, Jewel. She shared her life story of how she went from homelessness to happiness by utilizing mindfulness to overcome insurmountable obstacles.
Founded on the principal of hosting the best minds in science based health and wellness research, the 2016 Telluride Integrative Wellness Summit hosted leaders including Deepak Chopra, Dr. David Agus, Dr. Alan Safdi, Dr. Marc Siegel, Dr. George Pratt, and PJ O’Clair. Providing attendees with factual, research-based learnings, the summit delivers the foundation to further invest in personal health and wellness. Dr. Chopra is a leader in science-based wellness for both mind and body. Listed as “one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century” by TIME Magazine, Dr. Chopra’s qualia mechanics focus on the effects of experiences on the brain. Having authored 80 books translated into over 43 languages, his emphasis on happiness and peace is affecting how people consider experience.
Dr. David Agus discussed studies in human body structure, function, and cancer research. Closely tied to his most recent book The Lucky Years: How to Thrive in the Brave New World of Health, Dr. Agus discussed the pros and cons of statins, and techniques that reverse aging and prevent disease. Regularity of meals, sleep, and overall schedule plays a key role in preventing chronic disease. He is the the founding director of USC’s Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine. He presented his findings surrounding cancer and chronic disease prevention.
Each professional shared facts, statistics and techniques from the latest research on longevity, disease prevention, and nutrition. The conference focused on the cutting edge of health and wellness research. As said by Dr. Alan Safdi “Most studies that are published or are in the news are debunked within 10 years. Dr. Alan Safdi, one of the lead presenters throughout the weekend, is Chairman Ohio Gastroenterology and Liver Institute, President Consultants for Clinical Research, Medical Director Tri-State Endoscopy Centers, and past President Ohio Gastroenterology Society. Dr. Safdi has a passion for inspiring locale and personal well-being. He has traveled the world studying and presenting evidence-based health and wellness content. In his spare time, he enjoys reading American and European medical journals to further expand his understanding of human wellness.

Dr. Mark Houston has 8 medical degrees and presented lectures that focused on the latest studies related to heart health. He is also the author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease.
Chris Crowley, a New York Times bestselling author, hosted an entertaining and educational lecture. With the energy, charisma, and looks of a 50-year-old, the audience was in awe when he shared his chronological age, he is 82 years old. He is the walking embodiment of his books Younger Next Year, Drift and Thinner This Year. Bill Fabrocini shared the stage with Chris Crowley. He is a clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and a sports performance training coach
Also in attendance was PJ O’Clair, leader and consultant in the fitness industry, especially with regard to Pilates, and a key driving force in researching fascia and movement. A new and exciting field that little was known about just 5 years ago, the definition of fascia in medical text books was just rewritten. She reviewed the fascial movement variables; bounce, sense, expand and hydrate and advised the audience on key stretches to provide your fascia with greater mobility.
Dr. George Pratt presented on the subconscious and hypnotherapy. More than 90% of human behavior comes from the subconscious and the subconscious is infinitely more powerful than the conscious. He provided groundbreaking data on dealing with this issue and how it can help with treatment of PTSD and childhood abuse. A great deal of these victims are treated with drugs, not treatment. That needs to change.
Combined, the speakers created an educational, emotional and entertaining weekend that provided attendees with the facts about health and wellness.
