Telluride’s early season snow game has been strong, thanks to preferential storms and mountain operations. As a result, Telluride will be opening some of its best terrain earlier than usual. This Saturday, December 5 th , the Resort will be opening Lifts 4, 5, and 6, completing the full mountain “loop.” Next weekend, the Resort will also be opening Lifts 7, 8 and 9 for Saturday and Sunday allowing front side access and expanded terrain.
The famous Plunge trail will open next weekend along with Coonskin and Telluride Trail, making an in-town après ski possible with easy ski-to-town access. Continued snowmaking and trail building efforts are in motion as the mountain operations team continues to prepare connecting trails. With snow in the forecast and the early season on our side, the Resort is planning expansive terrain roll-outs as the holiday season approaches. In fact, Lift 10 will be opening on Wednesday, December 16th with limited terrain access, making it easy to ski home from the slopes.
“This early season has been successful in terms of what we’ve been able to open already,” said Jeff Proteau, vice president of mountain operations. “Being able to open lifts 7, 8 and 9 is a win for us this early in the season, especially since people will be able to take advantage of skiing directly into town.”
The Telluride Park Crew has also wrapped up the build out of the Lower Hoot Brown Terrain Park. The park has a handful new features including a wall ride donated by Resort partner, GoPro. Holiday Prelude lit the town on Wednesday with annual Noel Night and will continue through December 13 th with activities and events like professional ice skating performances, free sledding, pajama breakfast, and the beloved North Pole at the top gondola with visits from Santa, Frosty, and the Grinch.
