Telluride Ski Resort has been raking in the snow over the past 48 hours. With 8 inches in the last 24 hours and 16 inches since the storm began Saturday night, we’re reveling in a winter wonderland (at last). Snow continues to fall as we prepare for the season ahead.
Opening Day is almost here with the resort opening for the season this Friday, December 2nd. Friday’s terrain openings will include runs off the Village Express Lift (Lift 4) and the Chondola (Lift 1) which will open for the season on Friday. The Chondola’s regular hours are 7 am to midnight to allow for commuting from the Meadows area to Mountain Village and beyond.
Weather permitting, we plan to open Polar Queen Express (Lift 5) and the Apex Lift (Lift 6) next Saturday, December 10th with additional terrain for skiers and snowboarders.
The answer you’ve all been waiting for, the Donation Day mountain preview event will occur on Thursday, December 1st from 12 pm to 4 pm with access to terrain off of the Village Express Lift (Lift 4) throughout operating hours. Tickets are required and can be purchased in the ticket offices for $25. All proceeds will benefit the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club.
“Donation Day is a community tradition that we wanted to continue again this season,” said Bill Jensen, CEO of Telluride Ski & Golf Resort. “I know everyone is anxious to get on the snow, and this serves as a great opportunity to do so a bit early, and for a good cause.”
Opening Day Activities
On Friday, you can jump in line to get on first chair when the lift begins turning at 9:00 am. The first four people in line at the Village Express Lift (Lift 4) will have the honor of breaking the banner to start the season. They’ll also enjoy bragging rights for the entire 16/17 ski season.
When the lifts stop turning on Friday at 4:00 pm, head to Tomboy Tavern in Mountain Village for a complementary Austrian Beer Garden and poster signing from Olympic Champion down-hill skier Franz Klammer. The beer garden will be open from 4 to 6 pm and will serve a variety of beverages including beers from local favorites Telluride Brewing Company and Sweetwater Brewing Company.
After the Opening Day Celebration, head to the Telluride Conference Center for “The Fourth Phase,” the newest film from Travis Rice, Brain Media, and Red Bull Media House. This screening, presented by BootDoctors, will benefit the San Miguel County Search and Rescue teams. Ticket ($10) are available at any BootDoctors location.
