Entering its 13 th year, the Telluride Plein Air will take place starting Tuesday, June 28 through Monday, July 4, 2016. Visitors can see the beauty of Telluride’s natural landscape come to life on canvas as artists spend a week painting outside, and will then exhibit and sell their works.
This event, hosted by the Sheridan Arts Foundation, will feature 27 nationally recognized artists that specialize in Plein Air art. En plein air is a French expression that is frequently used to describe the act of painting outdoors. With the peaks surrounding Telluride to serve as a backdrop, the artists will have plenty of inspiration as they work throughout the week.
Throughout the event, there are plenty of activities for viewing the artists’ works in progress. Artists will be stationed in and around Telluride, and will also take part in two Paint Outs in Mountain Village on Wednesday, July 29 during Market on the Plaza and the Sunset Concert Series featuring Albert Cummings .
The final event of Plein Air will kick off on Saturday, July 2, when artists with the Exhibition and Art Sale, located in the Sheridan Opera House Courtyard and Elks Park. For three days, you’ll be able to purchase paintings created throughout the week and also vote for your favorite artist throughout the sale.
Plein Air is a unique event that celebrates creativity in the mountains and is also for a good cause. All artwork profits will be split with 40 perfect benefitting the Sheridan Arts Foundation’s community programming and 60 percent will go to the individual artists.
