This year, Telluride Ski Resort will mark the end of its winter season with a free concert by nationally acclaimed band G. Love & Special Sauce . After the annual pond skim competition at Gorrono Ranch, the band will take the stage around 3 pm in Mountain Village Core to officially send-off the 2016-2017 ski season. Local favorite, Cousin Curtiss, will bring his signature high-energy performance seen around Telluride all season long to the Mountain Village Core to open for G. Love & Special Sauce in the early afternoon.
G. Love has come a long way in the last 23 years since he was discovered by drummer Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens in a Boston pub. After playing together, they brought in upright bassist James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott, and G. Love & Special Sauce was born. Their self-titled debut featuring the hit “Cold Beverage” wound up going gold, and the band became well-known for their live shows.
G. Love & Special Sauce is an alternative hip-hop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are known for their unique, "sloppy” and "laid back" blues sound that encompasses classic R&B. To this day, the band features Garrett Dutton, better known as G. Love, Jeffrey Clemens on drums, and Jim Prescott on bass.
After playing with and without Special Sauce over the years, the trio is back together, creating their down and dirty “trashcan blues” sound with their latest album Love Saves the Day , released last October. Live shows featuring raw grooves and funky rock ‘n’ roll are still a rush for the group, with G. Love proudly describing himself as a road dog who “will be touring until [he falls] off the stage.”
