Access Is Everything

Business groups taking advantage of flights to Telluride

There are two things that everyone wants from a corporate retreat or a business conference: a great destination away from the hectic, everyday pace, and an easy way to travel to and from the destination.

Telluride has always been the ideal place—a gorgeous, uncrowded sanctuary with an abundance of outdoor activities, events and upscale amenities. And now, travelers to Telluride have more options than ever. Access to and from the area has been growing every year, and now, with daily, year-round flights from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport to Montrose-Telluride Regional Airport, Telluride is just a flight away. Patrick Latcham is a Business Development Manager at Telluride Ski Resort, and he’s excited about the expanded access as a new option for his clients. “I love the flight,” he says. “I have been to Dallas four times over the last six months, and the direct flights are great. It’s only an hour and 45 minutes, give or take. It allows guests to enjoy an afternoon in Telluride without having to wake up early for the departure.”

Latcham says there are all types of groups that are taking advantage of the access for incentive trips, continuing medical education (CME), executive board retreats, team building activities, and more. Telluride has premier facilities for the indoor portion of a trip, the Telluride Conference Center, The Peaks Resort & Spa , and The Madeline Hotel.

And, the outdoor activities are renowned. A host of outfitters and guides offer ample options during a free afternoon, whether it’s hiking, biking, rafting, climbing, or just enjoying the fresh air and mountain scenery. Latcham says there are added benefits: exclusive experiences for corporate clients, assistance from a VIP concierge, easy airport transfers, and the views from the meeting spaces are breathtaking.

Even small groups are taking advantage of the flights, he says, by booking with American Airlines Group and Meeting travel, or their preferred third party vendor, to secure seats on these flights. According to Latcham, one of the first questions he gets from groups wanting to visit is about the accessibility. “It’s a crucial part of the group planning process. Our daily air service from DFW to MTJ has opened the door for groups based in Dallas as well as groups on the east coast that route through Dallas-Fort Worth. The new flights are doing really well, and I think we will see more flights in the near future.”
