Never Mountain Biked before but are interested in trying it?

Bike Park Essentials shows you the ropes by utilizing unintimidating terrain sections of the Bike Park. Your guide will coach you on the basics of Mountain Biking, including equipment familiarization, stance, braking, and cornering. You will also learn how to safely load/unload the chair lift with your bike and will experience Telluride’s signature Tommyknocker flow trail with your guide.

Minimum Gear Requirement: Bicycles must have 20” diameter wheels or larger, knobby tires, handbrakes, and no coaster brakes. Helmets are required and eye protections and gloves are highly recommended.

Clinic Duration: 3 hours

Daily Departure Times: 10am, 1:30pm

Bike Park Essentials Clinic Only | $40

Clinic, Lift, and Rental Package | $125
Includes clinic, lift ticket, half day standard bike rental, helmet, and body armor. Guest may upgrade to a full day rental and/or a premium demo bike at Telluride Sports.

Note: If renting equipment, plan on arriving at least 30 minutes before the clinic to pick up your bike and gear.

Are you experienced on two-wheels and looking to go out with one of Telluride’s guides to elevate your time in the Bike Park? You’ll develop your Bike Park-specific skills like cornering, dynamic braking, bike control, and even jumping on our Green and Blue trails.

Minimum Gear Requirement: Bicycles must have front and rear suspension, 20” diameter wheels or larger, knobby tires, handbrakes, and no coaster brakes. Full face helmets are required and eye protections, body armor, and gloves are highly recommended.

Clinic Duration: 3 hours

Daily Departure Times: 10am, 1:30pm

Hiring a private Bike Park Guide will ensure your learning is fast tracked and time is all about you. Enjoy the guide all to yourself or bring along 3 friends (up to 4 riders total) with your guide.

Limited on time but would still like to be introduced to mountain biking by a professional guide?

Mountain Bike Essentials shows you the ropes by utilizing unintimidating terrain and our signature Bike Park Practice facility, the Gold Bug Loop. Your guide will coach you on the basics of Mountain Biking, including equipment familiarization, stance, braking, and cornering. You will not ride the chairlift with a guide during a Mountain Bike Essentials clinic.

Check out Bike Park Essentials if you are interested in learning essential mountain bike skills AND having a guided experience up the chair lift and down the Bike Park’s signature green trail, Tommyknocker.

Daily Departure Times: 1:30pm, 4:30pm

  • View Rider Ability Levels

    BEGINNER

    A beginner rider has never ridden in a downhill mountain bike park. They will have little to no experience riding a mountain bike on dirt roads or gravel bike paths. Most, if not all, of their riding experience will be on city streets and paved bike paths using a road or urban bike. This rider will have average balance and control on a bike and they can use the hand brakes.

     


    NOVICE

    A novice rider will have limited to no experience in a downhill mountain bike park. This rider will be able to ride comfortably at slower speeds on green flow trails and has some experience riding green and easy blue cross country trails. Their balance and control on a bike is good they and can use the hand brakes.

     


    INTERMEDIATE

    An intermediate rider has some bike park experience on green and easy blue trails. They are comfortable on a mountain bike and technical blue cross country trails with roots, loose rocks and tight single track. This rider will have no experience with jumping or drops but can ride, balance, change gears and brake autonomously.

     


    STRONG INTERMEDIATE

    A strong intermediate rider is comfortable on all green and blue trails in the Telluride/Mountain Village area. They can comfortably ride wide flowing blue trails with rollers and easy jumps. This rider is working towards improving jump, drop and cornering skills to handle the harder trails and flow better. They can ride, balance, change gears and brake without thinking about it at higher speeds and on steeper terrain.

     


    EXPERT

    An expert rider is comfortable and proficient on all Black technical and flow trails including all jump and drop options. They are working on gaining experience on double black and pro line trails.
