Swap ‘Til You Drop

Get deals on gear, season passes at KOTO Ski Swap

The 2016-17 ski season is upon us, and if you’re not geared up for it yet, then you’re in luck. Local community radio station KOTO holds its annual Ski Swap this weekend, giving you the opportunity to sell any used items you don’t need and to pick up any gear you do need.

The ski swap is about more than just getting rid of an extra pair of gloves and picking up a new pair of goggles. It’s a tradition, a chance to meet up with old friends and a fun way to celebrate the upcoming season. This is the third year that the swap also features the FREE-Ride, hosted by Telluride Ski Resort’s park crew at the base of Lift 8, where skiers and boarders can check out the park features for free. Parents need to sign a waiver for kids under 18 before they hit the boxes, rails, and kickers. Telluride Sports and BootDoctors will also be holding raffles to win free items at the event.

Not all of the items for sale are used—sports retailers host booths at the event with some discounted new gear. The ski swap is also the best place to pick up discounted season passes: $1,200 for adults, $449 for young adults and $249 for juniors.

The sale takes place Saturday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wilkinson Public Library, and the FREE-Ride is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the Gondola plaza; but if you’re looking to sell some gear, you need to check it in at the library garage on Friday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $1 donation and 20% of the sale price goes to the radio station, and any unsold items get picked up on Sunday.
