Summer Sunset Concerts are returning to Mountain Village this month. Beginning June 14th, with the First Grass Concert to kick off the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. For the past 13 years, the free Sunset Concerts have become hugely successful. “It’s a good vibe, isn’t it?” asks Anton Benitez, the President of the Town of Mountain Village Owners Association. “Music seems to be a constant theme, and this area is known for its concerts.” Benitez and his team intend to keep the Sunset Concert Series, and add even more music to the lineup.
A couple of highlight bands this summer include:
The Main Squeeze, performing on July 12th. They will bring a blend of soul and hip-hop, funk with rock to Telluride. Their deep musical roots sprouted in the Midwest and has taken them across the country, playing at incredible venues including Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
New Orleans Suspects, perform on July 19th. “New Orleans Suspects began playing together in 2009 as a pick-up band at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. Comprised of some of the most seasoned, highly respected players in NOLA, the group called themselves The Unusual Suspects. Their chemistry was undeniable and by the summer of 2011 they decided to tour full-time, renaming the band New Orleans Suspects. They quickly began attracting large crowds from San Francisco to New York. In five short years they’ve released four CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best super groups.”
Katy Guillen & The Girls take the stage the following week on July 26th, “On the dawn of their sophomore album release Heavy Days, Katy Guillen and the Girls have established themselves as an authentic, authoritative rock band. They are known to pack in crowds at blues roadhouses and prominent concert venues alike, supporting major touring acts or headlining festivals and bills of their own. In their short time as a band, the trio has shaped their own musical identity, rooted heavily in the blues but taking cues from the timeless guitar riffs of Jimi Hendrix to the visionary songwriting of Patty Griffin and the indie rock revivalist sound of Heartless Bastards.”
Sam Outlaw, a modern country singer. Since his 2015 debut, Outlaw has taken the music scene by storm traveling to worldwide concerts. Now only two years into his career, there are big expectations for him in the music community. Sure not to disappoint, we’re excited about these opportunities to see these acts completely free of charge.
