Opening Day Terrain Update

Thanksgiving is here and with it comes the highly anticipated Opening Day for Telluride Ski Resort. A very snowy preseason has provided excellent conditions for snowmaking, grooming, and mountain prep. Take a look at everything you need to know to celebrate the kick-off of the 2015-2016 ski season at Telluride:

Wednesday, November 25th: Telluride will kickoff opening events with the annual Donation Day, featuring $25 lift tickets for all skiers, snowboarders, and pass holders. Proceeds from all sales will go to Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club. With access from the Gondola , both magic carpets, the Chondola, and Village Express (Lift 4), open terrain will include Village Bypass to Lower Boomerang, Upper Misty headwall and Misty Maiden from Gorrono Ranch down to the base of Lift 4. Gorrono Ranch will open for the season serving chips and standard beverages inside and opening The Saloon for adult fare. Partial proceeds from every pint sold will also be donated to the Ski and Snowboard Club.

Thursday, November 26th: The official opening of the season will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Village Express (Lift 4), Polar Queen Express (Lift 5) and Apex Lift (Lift 6) all running.  See Forever and the 4,5,6 Loop  will remain closed while snowmaking operations continue, so all skiers and riders will need to exit Lift 6 and Lift 5 via Cake Walk at the bottom of Lift 5. Taking a few laps should prepare you for any celebratory feast that evening.

Saturday & Sunday, November 27th and 28th: As if this wasn’t great enough, for Saturday and Sunday only , Plunge Lift (Lift 9) will be open with access via Lift 6 prior to finalizing the snowmaking operations throughout next week. NOTE: Plunge Lift (Lift 9) is open only for the weekend and will close again on Monday until conditions permit. Lookout will remain closed.

As you’re working up an appetite during your time on the snow, head into Tomboy Tavern , Crazy Elk Pizza or Siam’s Talay Grille in the Mountain Village Core for lunch or dinner. For the best views in town, head up to Allred’s for après ski in the bar starting at 3 p.m. before sitting down for a wonderfully crafted meal.

This week is guaranteed to get everybody in town and on the mountain in the mood for an incredible ski season. Come up, aim for first chair, and get some turns in with friends and family during the holiday weekend.
