Between the tutus, onesies, and colors galore, Telluride’s powder day on Saturday was as bright as could be with over one hundred women, dressed in style, ripping around the mountain. This past weekend was the 3rd Annual International Women’s Ski Day launched by K2 and sponsored in Telluride by Bootdoctors. Giving passionate women an opportunity to test skis, Bootdoctors supplied the participants with free ski demos, food, and fantastic prizes from Poc, Volkl, Marmot, Patagonia, The North Face and more.
“Our community has a lot of incredible ladies who really get after it,” said Kelli Gleason, International Women’s Ski Day Ambassador, while riding up to snorkel in some powder below Lift 9 with resident stunners like Hilaree O’Neil, Galena Gleason, and Sam Tischendorf.
One of the most incredible parts about Telluride and the women that embody the spirit of the sport is the camaraderie that comes along with it all. After the morning meet up, the ladies hit the slopes to chase powder and whoop and holler the whole way down. Women traveled from around the Rockies to join the San Juan crew. Colorado Poc rep Andi Malboeuf and resident shredder Jesse McTigue led the charge skiing hard all day, soaking up as much powder as possible. Needless to say, it’s not hard to find role models, mentors, and ski aficionados in Telluride and the surrounding areas.
This coming year, Telluride is hosting it’s 35th year of the Annual Women’s Ski and Wellness week. With 3-day and 5-day clinics in both January and February, this year’s programming not only focuses on building the confidence of females in the sport, but also grows physical and mental wellness of attendees with talks by nutrition and wellness professionals and fitness gurus.
