Mountain Village is being transformed once again into the North Pole for this year’s Holiday Prelude celebration on Saturday, December 17. This year is promised to be bigger and better than ever, from live reindeer to train rides, the whole family is sure to be in for a great time. The goal this year from the collaborative effort of Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association , The Town of Mountain Village , Telluride Ski & Golf Company , and local stores is to make the Mountain Village Holiday Prelude the regional destination for holiday fun and activities, and it won’t disappoint.
With great events throughout the day on Saturday, the Holiday Prelude will culminate in the annual tree lighting ceremony with Santa and carolers in Heritage Plaza at 6pm. But before and after the tree lighting ceremony, the schedule is brimming with activities that the whole family will enjoy. Santa’s Elves will be at the Telluride Gondola Station to greet you as you hop on the gondola transformed into the Polar Express with decorations and lights. Upon reaching Mountain Village, you can board the train where it will meander throughout the twinkling town, making stops at local shops and the live reindeer petting area. There will be a curling demonstration held at the Mountain Village Ice Skating Rink to demonstrate the rules of the sport and allow anyone who wants to learn the sport a special chance to try out their skills. Following curling, the rink will be open to the public for free skate, until a memorable performance featuring local ice skaters in their rendition of “North Pole On Ice.” Be sure to head over to the Telluride Conference Center to get a picture with Santa, make Christmas ornaments with the elves or eat popcorn and sip on hot cocoa while watching our favorite holiday movies: “Mickey’s Magical Christmas,” “The Polar Express,” and the beloved “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The Parents’ Lounge and cash bar will be open for parents who want to put their feet up and unwind with a drink amidst the full day of holiday celebrations.
As a special bonus, Mountain Village shops are having some of the best discounts of the year along with raffles and giveaways for your last minute Christmas shopping needs. Mountain Village restaurants are joining the fun with food and drink specials all evening long. And, in the spirit of Christmas, the Franz Klammer Lodge will host an Angel Baskets Charity Drive for all to donate Christmas presents and warm clothing for those in need. The Fairmont Franz Klammer will be offering complimentary treats and drinks in their lodge on Saturday from 1-5pm.
The nighttime activities of the Prelude include sledding at the base of Mountain Village Express (Lift 4), the annual tree lighting and caroling, an ice skating show, and then an ice skating party with a DJ from 7-9pm.
Lodging and ski packages are available for those who want to extend the holiday fun. For more information, visit the Holiday Prelude website. Activities are all free of charge; events and times are subject to change so please check back often.
