The holidays are fast approaching, and what better place to get in the Christmas spirit than a mountain town surrounded by snow-capped peaks! Tucked away in the breathtaking San Juan Mountains, the towns of both Telluride and Mountain Village invite visitors and locals alike to join in celebrating the magic of the holiday season. Beginning on December 2 nd , the Holiday Prelude will deliver two full weeks of festivities fit for every member of the family.  

Noel Night

On December 2 nd , Telluride’s Main Street will be lit with holiday cheer as the Holiday Prelude kicks off. Shops throughout town will be abuzz, offering great discounts, food and drinks.

Telluride Arts Bazaar

Starting the weekend off with a Grand Opening and Merrymaking Celebration from 4 to 8pm on Friday, December 4 th , Telluride Arts will host the Telluride Holiday Arts Bazaar at Elks Lodge. The Bazaar will be open all weekend from 11am to 5pm, during which guests can purchase handmade, unique gifts for everyone on their list. Kids can also create one-of-a-kind pieces with help from Ah Haa School for the Arts.

Holiday Card Making & Christmas Decorating Studio

Join your little ones on December 5 th and 6 th for a free Cookie Decorating Demonstration with Janimals Cookies at Wilkinson Public Library at 2pm.

Old-Fashioned Christmas at Schmid Ranch

From 12 to 4pm on December 5 th , escape town and head for a truly stunning experience on Wilson Mesa.

Ski Tree Lighting and Ullr’s Ceremonial Ski Burn

This beloved annual event attracts many to Elks Park. At 5:30pm on December 5 th , Telluride’s famous tree in the town’s center, the Ski Tree, will be lit, and old skis will be ceremoniously burnt and sacrificed to Ullr, God of Snow, in hopes of a big powder year ahead!  

Holiday Prelude in Mountain Village

On the weekend of December 11 th to 13 th , Mountain Village will be transformed from the chic ski center core to the cheerful North Pole. A bevy of free events will take place throughout the weekend, and you don’t want to miss it!

December 11th

Wouldn’t it be great to cross all your holiday shopping off the list in one swoop? On Friday, take advantage of discounts and specials offered at participating Mountain Village shops during Jingle Jam. Once your shopping is done, take the kids on a Trip to the North Pole on the Gondola Express, and head toward Heritage Plaza for activities with Santa – Sitting with Santa, Santa’s Workshop – from 3-6. A North Pole Express train ride, available from 3 to 8pm, will run in Mountain Village. Following the fun activities, join Santa for a tree lighting ceremony at 6pm, followed by a professional ice skating performance – North Pole on Ice – at the Mountain Village Ice Rink at 6:30. Close out the evening with Live Music & a Champagne Toast at 7pm at The Peaks.

December 12th

For all the ladies out there, you don’t want to miss the chance to demo this year’s best skis with the experts at Bootdoctors on International Women’s Ski Day . Bring the little ones to the Princesses on Ice Show at 2pm at the Mountain Village Ice Rink, then head over to meet Frosty & the Grinch (3 to 5pm) in Mountain Village. An Ice Carving Demonstration will take place from 2:30 to 5pm at Sunset Plaza, and Sitting with Santa, Santa’s Workshop, and Trips to the North Pole on the Gondola Express will again take place from 3 to 6pm in Mountain Village. North Pole Express train rides are available from 3 to 8pm, while North Pole on Ice will be performed at 6:30 at the Mountain Village Ice Rink.

The night will be full of celebrations, with the Madeline’s Annual Ugly Sweater Skate Party at 7pm and Kid’s Night Out with Holiday Movies and Games at the Telluride Conference Center from 7 to 9:30pm. The kiddos will love having their own special event, while adults can boogie down on the rink as DJ Soul Atomic delivers the funk.  

December 13 th

Dine with St. Nick at Palmyra at the Peaks from 9 to 11am for Santa’s Pajama Breakfast, while also partaking in Stocking Decorating and Crafts. Got time to squeeze in a couple more activities before the weekend’s end? There will be open skating from noon to 5pm at the Mountain Village Ice Rink, along with North Pole Express train rides throughout the afternoon.
