Kids Activities (Summer)

Kids Camp

Kids Camp is a full day of outdoor exploration for kids ages 5-8. Each day we offer something new and exciting!  Activities include: easy to moderate hikes, playing in and around the river, fun games, team-building activities, mushroom hunting, picnic lunches, fun cooking & science experiments, and nature arts & crafts.

  • Offered Monday – Friday Monday, June 1st – Monday, August 31st, 2015 (We can customize a Saturday or Sunday adventure for your family with at least 48 hours notice and a minimum of 3 kids).
  • 9:30AM-3:30PM
  • Kids ages 5-8
  • $80/child/day. Register by April 5th and receive a $10 discount.

ecoX

We have created a schedule of fun and challenging ecoX adventures and encourage you to sign your child up for one of the existing courses/offerings. On days other than a scheduled program, we will evaluate the interests and abilities of the kids in the group and tailor activities to their liking. Activities can include: moderate to difficult hikes, team-building games, stand up paddle boarding, tubing down the San Miguel, disc golf, and other cool options.

To maintain proper group dynamic, we strongly recommend older and younger siblings to split and join the specific program designed for their age group.

Capture the Flag

A fun Eco Adventures tradition will continue this summer. We will play our favorite pastime in a special wooded course perfect for strategizing, team-building and healthy competition. Our Capture the Flag experts will referee and help the teams practice good sportsmanship. Each participant will receive a team-colored Eco Adventures bandana to keep as a souvenir. 

  • Offered the following Fridays: June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7 & August 14, 2015. 
  • 9:30AM – 3:30PM
  • Kids ages 8+ (younger kids will have an opportunity to play in the afternoon games)
  • Standard Kids Camp rates apply: $80/child. Register by April 5th and receive a $10 discount.

Build A Float

In addition to our standard Kids Camp on July 1 & 2, we will be offering kids the opportunity to help build our Telluride-themed float for the 4th of July parade.  Kids who participate in building the float on either the 1st or 2nd can join Eco Adventures float team for free in the Telluride parade on Saturday, July 4.

  • Offered Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2, 2015. 
  • 9:30AM – 3:30PM
  • Ages 5-14. 
  • Standard Kids Camp rates apply: $80/day Register by April 5th and receive a $10 discount.
  • Maximum of 20 float builders each day. Reservations are required 7 days in advance.

To give all kids a chance to participate, please reserve your child for only one day of float building.  


Kids Adventure Race

This summer brings the fourth annual Kids Adventure Race in Telluride. Modeled after the hit CBS series, Amazing Race, teams of kids, along with their fearless adult leaders, will collect hints that direct the team to obstacles which everyone must overcome together to advance. Race course and challenges will be located in the towns of Telluride, Mountain Village and within the Ski Area. All participants will receive a t-shirt and an invitation to the celebratory pizza party at Crazy Elk after the race.

Old Sawmill Ranch Horses & Ropes Course

This day-trip to the Old Sawmill Ranch in Norwood, teaches kids about Natural Horsemanship, a training and handling technique which is gentler than traditional methods and builds a beneficial relationship between horses and their handlers. In addition to developing leadership skills through riding horses, the group will challenge themselves in a low ropes course built in an amazing natural setting.

  • Offered Tuesday, June 30 (ages 5-14). Monday, July 13 (ages 5-8). Tuesday, July 14th (Ages 9-14).
  • Monday, July 20 (ages 5-8). Tuesday, July 21 (ages 9-14). Tuesday, August 11 (ages 5-14).
  • 9:30AM – 3:30PM

  • Reservations are required 7 days in advance.

2-day ecoXplore (with overnight)

This adventure includes two full days of outdoor exploration outside of the ski area and a fun overnight in a Colorado state park-sanctioned camp ground. The group will discuss basic wilderness awareness & Leave No Trace ethics, play cooperative games and discover how animals (including humans) adapt their senses at night.  To encourage independence, instructors will help kids be responsible for their own belongings, set up and break down camp and prepare for and clean up after meals. Weather permitting, we will engage in swimming and/or water activities, so please send a bathing suit and towel with your child. Also please send closed toe shoes and long pants.

Both male and female instructors will be present. To fully experience the wilderness and all it has to offer, kids’ electronic devices are prohibited on this 2-day camping excursion. Counselors will carry mobile phones and share their numbers with parents.

  • 10AM Wednesday, July 8 – 3PM Thursday, July 9, 2015.
  • 10AM Wednesday, July 29 – 3PM Thursday, July 30.
  • Ages 9+
  • $280/child (cost includes sleeping bag/pad, headlamp & life jacket rental, lunch & dinner on Monday and breakfast and lunch on Tuesday) Register by April 5th and receive a $30 discount.
  • Maximum of 8 kids. Reservations are required at least 7 days in advance. 

Mountaineering 101

During this two-day course, kids will learn about basic mountaineering techniques and attempt to summit some of the highest peaks within the ski area, including Bald Mountain and Gold Hill. The group will study weather patterns, geology and the Seven Leave No Trace Principles. Mountaineering 101 is weather-permitting.

  • Monday and Tuesday, July 6 & 7, 2015
  • Monday and Tuesday, August 3 & 4. 
  • 9:30AM – 3:30PM
  • Ages 9+.
  • $180/child.  Register by April 5th and receive a $20 discount.
  • Maximum of twelve participants per course. Must reserve at least 7 days advance and attend both days. 

Mountain Biking 101

While pedaling on some beginner trails, the group will study appropriate trail etiquette and proper mountain bike technique from bike/body position, shifting, braking, climbing and descending. Our goal is to evolve from wider trails to single track.

Mountain Biking 201

This course expands on the content introduced in Mountain Biking 101. The group will ride on more challenging trails and focus on more advanced biking techniques. Participants must have taken Mountain Biking 101 during the summer of 2014 or 2015, or be confident on intermediate single track trails and riding over rocks/roots.
