Starting the Season for a Good Cause
TELLURIDE, Colorado (November 20, 2013) - Telluride Ski Resort opens the 2013-2014 ski season with the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club (TSSC) annual fundraising event, Donation Day, on Wednesday, Nov. 27. All skiers and riders pay $25 to hit the slopes, with proceeds benefitting TSSC. Children under the age of five will still be able to ski for free.
“Telluride Ski Resort provides a great opportunity to raise money for the young skiers and riders of the community that participate in the club,” stated Justin Chandler, Executive Director of the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club. “Telluride Ski Resort has always been our biggest supporter. We could not operate without their efforts and generosity.”
100% of the proceeds raised goes directly to financial assistance fund for the TSSC. This program has grown significantly year over year, and this year TSSC has the largest enrollment ever.
The Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club will be offering free hot chocolate, coffee, and donuts at the base of the mountain in the Mountain Village, near the stairs of the Gondola station throughout the day.
“The Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club is an outstanding program, developing young skiers and snowboarders here in the community,” said Telluride Ski & Golf owner Chuck Horning. “We are proud to be able to put on this fundraising day for them, and hope everyone in the region will come out to get their first runs of the season and help support a great program.”
Lifts and terrain for Donation Day will consist of Mountain Village Express (4) with skiing on Village Bypass to Lower Boomerang, upper Misty Maiden and Lower Misty Maiden. The Gondola will be open for access to the Mountain Village and foot traffic to Village Bypass. The Chondola (1) will be operating for access with the Learning Center Magic carpet area open. The Magic Carpet at the base of Village Express will also be open and Ski School lessons available. Also there will be an early season terrain park open in the lower section of Hoot Brown this year, just above the base of Village Express Lift.
The Tomboy Tavern will open on Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, dinner being served until 10 p.m., and the Crazy Elk will open Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Allred's Restaurant will open for dinner Tuesday, Nov. 26 and will begin après ski service at 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, Nov. 28. A special Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served with a four course traditional dinner for $45 per person, $20 for children. A select of Allred's favorites will also be available.
Gorrono Ranch Saloon will open on Nov. 28 with soup, chili and hot dogs. Full services at Gorrono Ranch will begin Dec. 11 and Big Billie’s will begin Dec. 13. Other restaurants on the mountain are dependent on terrain openings and will begin service as conditions allow.
As the 2013-14 ski season approaches, pass holders are advised to stop by the pass office in the Mountain Village or the Coonskin office in order to pick up pass products. Thanksgiving Day is notoriously busy with locals trying to pick up passes and creating long lines. Both offices will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Spend opening day making turns and not waiting line, grab passes early.
Snowmaking operations are in full swing and the groomers are working the snow to provide the best quality skiing possible. Additional terrain will open as conditions allow.
