Ski & Snowboard School
Do it on Your First Day
Helitrax Ski Camp
Dates: All camps for the 2013/2014 season have been completed. 2014/2015 dates will be announced in the Fall of 2014.
Who: skiers who enjoy and are confident on all blue terrain and dream of skiing untracked lines and fresh snow beyond the ski area boundary.
Why: Telluride has the Ideal terrain to build your skills and confidence within the ski area and Helitrax, Colorado’s most experienced heli-ski company, flies right out of the base area of the ski area. Their pristine terrain includes expansive alpine bowls, gladed slopes, and classic mountain couloirs. This wide variety of terrain allows them to choose the perfect run to suit a wide range of ability levels, from upper intermediate skiers to experts, on any particular day. View the following YouTube clip for a glimpse of the terrain available during your heli-ski day.
Do you dream of skiing untracked lines but worry that your skills aren’t up to it? If you ski with confidence on all blue terrain, this camp will build skills and confidence to take your skiing out of the ski area and into the backcountry for an experience of a lifetime.
The wide variety of groomed and ungroomed terrain with the Telluride Ski Area provides an unique environment to gain experience and coaching in similar terrain to what you’ll ski from the helicopter. The third day takes your new found skills and confidence into the backcountry to ski runs chosen to suit your desires and comfort level, with coaching and support provided to help you enjoy and succeed in this new environment.
You’ll ski with one of Telluride’s most experienced instructors for all three days, and a guide from Colorado’s most experienced helicopter skiing company will join the group for the third day.
With a minimum and maximum of 3 participants required for each date, pick two of your favorite friends or family members to share this unique experience and create lasting memories.

Meet the Instructors
Steve Hindman came to Telluride in 1976 to ski bum only to find no snow and no lifts open. This launched him into the backcountry, where he caught the initial wave of the telemark revolution. For most of the last 30 years, he lived in Bellingham, WA while traipsing about snowy mountains, meadows, and trails on all types of skis. He is a 12 year veteran of the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) telemark and cross-country demo team, lead the adult ski and snowboard school at Stevens Pass in Washington State for five years, and is currently one of the top alpine instructors at Telluride. In the summer, he guides bicycle trips for Lizard Head Cycling Guides in Ophir, CO. In between season, he worries editors as a ski writer.
