    Daily Backcountry Skiing & Snowboarding Tours/Clinics

    Daily Backcountry Skiing & Snowboarding Tours/Clinics are a great introduction to the sport of backcountry riding and the terrain in Telluride, Colorado.  These tours provide you with the opportunity to learn and be confident with backcountry travel equipment, finding, accessing and determining travel routes.  Protocol and general avalanche awareness will be a theme throughout the day.  Advanced groups will highlight more technical backcountry descents and travel.  These tours will highlight adventure, seeking out backcountry steeps and deeps while practicing safe route-finding, travel protocols and avalanche hazard evaluation.  The backcountry skiing and snowboarding tour days will vary on group’s needs and wants. Our goal is to show you Telluride’s best backcountry terrain!

    Note: Price includes backcountry avalanche rescue equipment (Beacon, Shovel, Probe) for participants that need them, and a bag lunch. These prices do not include backcountry ski/snowboard equipment and transportation. You must have a backcountry set-up (Skiers: touring compatible bindings, skis, skins, boots, poles; Snowboarders: split board with proper bindings, skins, boots; Tele Skiers: skis, skins, boots.  Please remember snacks, water and extra layers of clothes). 

     


    AIARE L1 Avalanche Education Course

    Cost: $380 per person for the 3-day course / Minimum course size of 5 students, maximum course size of 10 students

    This course is a great opportunity to take an Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) L1 course in the world renowned San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The San Juan’s are known as being one of the best locations to learn about avalanche education. This course will be run by Telluride’s exclusively recommended backcountry guide service, San Juan Outdoor Adventures/Telluride Adventures and will utilize some of the top instructors from the Telluride Avalanche School.  In this introductory course, students will learn the basics to evaluate avalanche conditions from local mountain guides and instructors. Students will be introduced to the avalanche phenomenon in both classroom and field sessions. In learning about the relationship that exists between mountain weather, snowpack stability and terrain features, students will gain a basic understanding of how to evaluate avalanche conditions. Field sessions make up at least 60% of course content and are conducted in a variety of settings. This course is a must for anyone who even considers venturing into the backcountry.  At the end of the 3 day course, participants receive an AIARE course certificate.
